Honaker Funeral Home, Inc. - Slidell Obituary

On Sunday, January 24, 2021 the world lost a man with a giving heart and an infectious laugh, and his family is broken-hearted. Daniel “Danny”, “Dan”, “Mr. Dan”, “Coach Dan” O’Sullivan, of Slidell, Louisiana, a retired special education teacher, Pinewood Country Club golfing legend, and fun-loving man filled with an everlasting wanderlust for life, passed to the other side at the age of 65 after a long, and hard-fought battle with cancer.

Dan was born in New York, New York on a Wednesday, February 23, 1955. He spent his childhood between Philadelphia and Highland Lakes, New Jersey. He hated the cold, and so spent his life baking in the Louisiana sun. He loved boiling crawfish in the rain, floating in the pool, relaxing at the beach, building his backyard jungle, blasting music on car rides, and taking his children and their friends on memorable adventures.

Dan was an alum of Malvern Preparatory in Pennsylvania, Loyola University New Orleans, and received his Masters of Education at the University of New Orleans. He began his teaching career at St. Michael’s Special School and ended it after a 32-year tenure at Northshore High School as a distinguished special education professional and golf coach. Mr. Dan was loved by all of his students and the faculty at Northshore High School.

Dan was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Ward O’Sullivan; his mother, Katherine Lenihan O’Sullivan; and his second wife, Rita Stockstill O’Sullivan.  Left to carry Dan’s legacy are his wife Robin; his sisters, Kathleen, Annebeth, Maureen; his children Caitlin (Nathan), Maureen (Jacob), Kevin (Zoe), their mother, Deborah O’Sullivan Rotolo, Steven, Lisa (Rob), Amara; and his grandchildren Brooke, Zoe, Finn, Markus, Alexis, and Greyson.

In memory of Dan O’Sullivan, the family asks, in lieu of flowers, to please make a charitable donation to STARC of La., Inc., 40201 Hwy 190 E, Slidell LA 70461 or online at www.STARCLA.org.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Dan at a later date in safer times. In the meantime, there will be a virtual Remembrance Ceremony for close friends and family that is being planned.
