Feb 8, 1988 – Dec 13, 2015
Sometime in the early hours of December 10, 2015, Daniel Ryan Phelps, oldest son of Jim and Mary T. Phelps, passed away in his sleep from natural causes.
Daniel was very active throughout his life playing baseball, flag football and finally settling on soccer as his sport of choice. Daniel, a member of a military family, moved nine times in his first nineteen years of life. He made friends quickly and become a positive influence wherever he went.
He graduated from Leilehua High School in Hawaii after being named athlete of the year and accepting a scholarship to play Division 1 Soccer at the University of Washington in Seattle. It was here that he truly blossomed. Daniel excelled as an athlete, scholar and even more importantly, as a leader and friend. Daniel's greatest gift was to make all those around him better. He was a natural motivator with his teammates, friends and family. His work ethic, charisma and general outlook on life made him the kind of person everyone wanted to be around. Daniel was a Pac-10 All-Academic First Team member for 2007, 2008 and 2009.
He graduated from the UW Foster School of Business with a degree in finance. He started his career in Alexandria, VA, where he worked his way up to be a key member of the program management team. Daniel returned to Seattle earlier this year to join an up-and-coming company where he could grow and make an even greater impact. Now back with his college friends, he continued to play soccer and was enjoying the prime of his life.
Daniel had a positive impact on his three siblings, Christopher, Kristen, and Michael. He will continue to live on every day in our hearts and in everything we do as we strive to uphold his high standards and love of life. Good-bye Daniel, in this life…we look forward to seeing you across the horizon wherever that may take us in our love and faith in God.
A Celebration of Life service was held at the University of Washington Husky Stadium on December 18th, 2015. In lieu of cards or flowers, please donate in Daniels' name to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
The family is served by Hoffner Fisher & Harvey Funeral Home. A guestbook is available at Harveyfuneral.com.

I wanted to send condolences from the Northern VA area. The ODFC soccer family extends our thoughts and prayers to you and family.
It was great to have you as a teammate and it was even better to see you and the others (Jason, and Ryan) take over the team awhile back. Although ODFC was purely for fun and deemed bush league soccer by many, the team and the relationships forged meant much more. As one of the 2nd generation team stewards/managers (The team was passed down to me in 2002...

Dearest Daniel,
I have always thought of you as having a golden spirit -- a person who gives contagious, positive energy to everything and everyone around.
So many memories that I will treasure forever. The first time I saw you was in your mother's arms all snuggled up -- your mom had the biggest bouquet of red roses that I have ever seen: 1 dozen for every pound of you. I remember your mischievous laughter as I am chasing you towards the "forbidden" beach at your first home Gig Harbor...

I am so sorry to hear about Daniel's passing. Daniel was a member of our HYSA team here in Hawaii. He was younger than the rest of the boys but was a great player and fit right in. Obviously, Daniel lived life to the fullest and had a positive impact on all those he interacted with. Please accept my deepest condolences on your loss.
