DANIEL JOHN ROSZKOWSKI, age 80, of Portage, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2022. He was born in Gary, Indiana on October 12, 1942. Daniel graduated from Bishop Noll Institute and went on to Western Michigan University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree. He spent his career working as a stockbroker. Daniel was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, where he was a faithful member and gave of his time as an usher. Daniel excelled at softball, basketball and still holds the 1-mile record at Bishop Noll. He was an avid hunter (for 72 straight years) and fisherman. Daniel was very involved in the Democratic Party in both Lake and Porter Counties serving as the Precinct Committeeman of Portage Precinct 6. He served as Chairman of the Board at Northshore Health Center for 20 years and was formerly a board member at Porter Memorial Hospital. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie; 2 sons, Daniel (Ginny) Roszkowski of Lebanon, TN, Michael (Erica) Roszkowski of Indianapolis; 2 daughters, Linda (Jeff) Hall of Hebron, Debora Townsend of Leesburg; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Adele Kopko of Palm Springs, CA, Barbara (Walter) Pliske of Valparaiso, and Terry (Jeff) Roszkowski Chew of Paseo Tesoro, AZ; beloved dog and faithful companion, Dusty; many loving nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, John Roszkowski and Ann Bianchi; and brother, Anthony Roszkowski.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or ASPCA.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial for Daniel on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. directly at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2447 Putnam, Lake Station, with Rev. Jaime Perea presiding. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 4, 2023 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage with a Rosary at 7:00 pm.
