Salty Dan approached me in 1980 on Metro Beach in Detroit. He wanted to crew on my Hobie 16. I explained that no one rides for free so I sent him off and he returned with a 12 pack. Back in no time we spent about 3 hours on Lake St. Clair becalmed in the shipping channels and had to swim ourselves out of the way of a super tanker. Our life on Lake Weir will never be the same without Dan Schnebel. He was the kind of friend who was always there for us whenever we needed his many talents. He was always eager to help solve our electrical issues, and he was an amazing carpenter who had the vision of a true artist. His gift of music was very special, and when my sister died five years ago, Dan played and sang at her Celebration of life which gave all who attended much joy and peace.
