Two Brothers on Two Floors
For a time, Daniel James Shea would not work at Cantor Fitzgerald. His older brother, Joseph Patrick Shea, was pretty high up there, and he did not want anyone to think he had zipped in on his brother's coattails. Then he relented.

Joseph Shea, 47, a senior managing director, was on the 105th floor of the first building to be hit. Daniel, 37, was on the 104th. At home in Pelham, N.Y., seven children are without fathers.

Three thousand people turned out for the brothers' joint funeral service at St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Manhattan. One reason, perhaps, was the brothers' generosity. Joseph Shea donated generously to the hockey team of his alma mater, Georgetown University, and coached local youth hockey and baseball teams.

When three New York City firefighters were killed on the job this past Father's Day, Daniel Shea contributed his day's commissions to their families and persuaded other men on his floor to do the same. They raised $15,000.

"Cantor set up at the Pierre and the F.B.I. guy told us no one above the plane would have lived," said their sister, referring to a family service center the company had set up at the hotel after the attack.

"They were all alive for a while. Danny didn't have his cell, but his friend Tommy did. They couldn't call out, but when Tommy's girlfriend called, Danny said, 'Call my wife and tell her how much I love her.' Joseph called his wife and said, 'A plane just hit the building.' She said, 'What about Danny?' He said, 'I'm just going down to find him.' "

Not sure what to say?

I pray for your families every day. We are the Boston branch of the family.

I visited NYC recently and met Donna and her 2 children. We visited the 911 Memorial and Museum and saw your names on the memorial wall. Thats when I discovered that Donna and her children had a personal reason for visiting- she was your sister in law and her children, your niece and nephew. I heard great stories about you and your brother. You both are truly missed. I pray for peace for your families and all who have lost loved ones in this senseless tragedy. May your light continue to...

You are remembered fondly.

People don't forget.
I was just telling someone about my brother, an NYPD ESU officer that lost his life in the North Tower.
I am greatful they recalled the Shea brothers story to me.
I am so sorry and understand the pain this family must live with.
Another fine family that didn't deserve this.

Danny and I grew up together in Plandome NY Our mothers were best friends. He and I had spent time together on summer vacations with our families in Spring Lake NJ the 70's. I too work on Wall St and would run into Danny from time to time. There is not I day that goes by that I don't think about that shinning example of what an Irish should be.. Danny was that for sure. God Bless you and all those who are no longer with us. I know that Danny is smiling down on us from above. God Speed. BWS

Daniel Shea was my Dad and Joe was my uncle its sucks

I saw Daniel and Joseph's names on the 9/11 Memorial and had to know if they were related. So sad to know that these two brothers died on that day and left seven children without a father. Thinking of you and all whose lives were lost that horrible day.

the world was blessed to have had you in it. always and forever-your indomitable spirit shines light in the hearts of the soskis family. thank you for being you. genuine. truly one of a kind. stay gold, danny. with love, honor and respect, Little Sosk

I thought about Joe and Dan all day yesterday and their families. Their grandmother and my grandfather, William Dwyer, were siblings. So we were cousins. We wish the families peace as they continue to move forward.
