Not sure what to say?

Dear John...I was shocked and saddened to learn of Dan's passing...I just read it in this mornings' Morning Call art and leisure section...He was a prince among men and I feel honored to have known him. Please know that you are in my thoughts ..Pam Leuthe

Dear John,
We were very shocked to hear of Dan's passing. News travels ever so slowly here in Poland. Please accept our deepest sympathy. He will be truly missed by so many people that he touched in so many areas of life. For me, it will be the "shed", the glass "workbench" and above all "the Safe". I will miss his seasonal emails, warm conversations and philosophical discussions and his closing comments: Michael, "stop trying to move mountains." Some where in the heaven another new star...

A brilliant light in the Lehigh Valley has been extinguished with Dan's death. We have known Dan for many years -- as an avid theater talent, a dedicated teacher, a contributing member of his community and and a caring friend to all who knew him. To know Dan was to love him. Our deepest sympathy goes to John and family members.

John and Burt,

I had the pleasure of acting with Dan on a number of occasions over the past 9 years. He will always be an inspiration to me as an actor and even more for his kindness, wisdom, humor, and gentle spirit. May we all find peace in his memory.

Sincerely,
Pat Kelly

A Mighty Spirit Rising…

It was October, 1967. A balding man of about 33 years old approached a microphone at the dedication of the new Bethlehem Public Library on 11 West Church Street.

First, he nearly tipped the microphone onto fellow actor Bill Fenza, who was portraying Will Rogers, and he then gingerly stepped on the toes of yours truly, Mark Twain. As he looked around at county officials, a ribbon- cutting mayor, and about 300 onlookers, he just smiled and said…”well, this...

John
I had Mr. Sigley in 4th grade at Asa Packer. He loved teaching us kids and introducing us to acting. It's not very often a teacher will share his love for something he does outside of school and hope that he inspires his students to persue our interest. I have encountered him in the last several years while dropping my kids off at Calypso, what a small world. He'll be missed by all who knew him and loved him.

My deepest sympathies go out to all of Dan's loved ones. I was fortunate enough to share the stage with Dan in "Marat/Sade" and "God's Country" at Theatre Outlet, and he was a joy to work with, professional to a fault, generous, and always kind. I remember him fondly. He will be missed.

All teachers leave an imprint on each of their students. With some the influence is fleeting while others leave a more enduring mark. As my 5th grade teacher at Edgeboro Elementary School, Mr. Sigley left an indelible impression on me. Rather than “put on a school play” using scripts written for 10 and 11 year olds, he introduced us to William Shakespeare and The Theatre. I still remember the very first time we read and discussed Macbeth; it opened up a whole new world that I never knew...

Dear John,

You know how Dan was adored by all who worked with him at Donegan Elementary. I found this song we sang to him (to the tune of “Jesus Christ Superstar”) on his 50th birthday:

Dan Sigley, Superstar,
You’re not a nerd, though you say you are.

Every time we look at you we don’t understand
Why you stay at Donegan, what’s in your head, Dan?
You’d be so much richer with a stained-glass craft stand
Why not go to Broadway--be some star’s leading...
