Daniel J. Steinberg 93, of Peoria passed away at 11: 44 p. m. on Friday, Feb. 25, 2022, at his home, surrounded by family.
He was born onApril 29, 1928, in SpringValley, IL, to Maurice and Ethel ( Wasserstrom) Steinberg. He married Sandra Steinberg on Aug. 12, 1953, inHouston, TX. She survives.
Also surviving are their three children, Baila Matlin of Jerusalem, Israel, Sally ( Howard) Goldstein of Baltimore, MD, and Lewis ( Janet) Steinberg of Northbrook, IL.; 15 grandchildren, 49 great- grandchildren; and one brother, Charles (Charlene) Steinberg of Spring Valley, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Sidney Steinberg.
The graveside service was held on Monday, February 28, 2022, at Peoria Hebrew Cemetery in West Peoria. Rabbi Eli Langsam officiated. Davison- Fulton Woodland Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Donations may be made to Peoria Hebrew Day School, Chabad Jewish Center of Peoria, Congregation Agudas Achim or The Jewish Federation of Peoria.

It is with regret that I only recently learned of Daniel Steinberg's passing almost four months ago, so this tribute is, sadly, long overdue - but no less sincere. (In Nov 2020, I moved from Peoria to St. Louis; hence my delay in learning that he'd passed away.)
Mr. Steinberg, who regularly referred to himself as "Danny", was a decades-long accountant to my parents. His professional connection with our family began 4-decades ago, when Dan first helped my parents prepare their business taxes in the early 1980's. His reassuring and thorough work ethic quickly convinced my parents to hire Dan as their personal accountant, as well. Thereafter, Dan became much more than accountant - he was also a friend and adviser.
Later, upon my Mother's passing in April 2020, he worked patiently with me in the tedious efforts to prepare the final estate taxes of my parents. For me, any visit to Dan's office also included a sort of historical lesson on the Jewish faith and history of Israel.
He proudly boasted of his 30+ visits to the Jewish homeland in Israel; As a college graduate with a world history degree, I clung to every story he shared about his faith, his family, and the struggles of his adopted Israeli homeland.
Dan's integrity and loyalty will be missed, as will the man himself.
