Daniel Robert Stuver
October 18, 1930 - December 26, 2011
"Dan" was born to Myrtle and W. Amos Stuver in Read's Landing, Minnesota on October 18, 1930. He grew up with a love of the outdoors and spent much of his childhood fishing on the Mississippi River. Dan enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 18 years old and fought in the Korean War. It was while in the service that Dan met the love of his life, Margaret Bowman. They married in 1953 and settled in Long Beach where they started a family. While he worked full-time, Dan attended Long Beach City College and Cal State Long Beach, and then worked as an electrical engineer at McDonnell Douglas and Boeing Aircraft companies until retiring after 35 years. Dan was a Mason and a member of International Lodge 389 in Long Beach and a former member of the Seal Beach Yacht Club. His passion for the outdoors, and especially the ocean, was always so evident; he spent most of his weekends and his retirement on his boat with his family and his many friends. Dan was an avid scuba diver and fisherman who routinely brought in limits of lobster, abalone, scallops and fish from trips to Catalina Island and the Long Beach breakwater. He and Margaret also enjoyed travel, especially ocean and riverboat cruising. Dan's greatest love was his family. He was a loving husband and wonderful dad. Always leading by example, Dan was a tremendous role model for his sons, his grandchildren and to all who knew him. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, W. Amos and Myrtle Stuver, sisters, Betty Myrta and infant daughter, Leslie Ann. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret; sons, David (Karen) of Mclean, Virginia and Russell (Terri) of Lakewood, California; and grandchildren, Colin, Daniel, Katelyn, Ashley, Ian and Erin. He was a loving man who lived an amazing life on his terms. Words cannot express the loss felt by all those who knew him. A celebration of Dan's life will be held in the spring.
