SPRINGFIELD – Daniel J. Sweeney, 87, passed away peacefully Sunday in Mercy Hospital surrounded by his loving family.  Dan was born in Springfield the son of the late Cornelius and Josephine (Della Mattera) Sweeney.  He graduated from Springfield Trade School, and had lived in Hungry Hill most of his life until moving to Chicopee 18 years ago.  He worked as a Press Feeder with the General Fiber Box Company until his retirement.  He was also a United States Army Veteran.  A longtime member of the Adriatic Club and also to the American Legion Post 420.  He leaves his wife of 66 years Antonette (Zamboni) Sweeney; four children: Daniel (Michelle), Michael (Kathy), Maureen (Lou) and Linda (James); seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren as well his brother in law Natalino and his wife Jackie.  Besides his parents, Dan was predeceased by his two brothers Cornelius and Joseph. A private burial was held at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.  Special thanks to the entire staff of Mercy Hospital.
