DEAN, Darlene Kay - Of Flint, age 74, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2023 at her home in Grand Blanc.


Visitation 12pm Thursday, May 4, 2023 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint until the time of the service at 4pm Thursday.

Burial of cremains in Crestwood Cemetery at a later date.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association.


Darlene was born in Flint, Michigan on May 25, 1948 the daughter of the late Donald and Shirley Upper and was a resident of the Flint area all of her life. She married Edwin H. Dean III on May 22, 1976 in Flint. She was employed with Genesee Intermediate Schools for 13 years and Carmen-Ainsworth schools for several years. Darlene loved riding her Harley Davidson motorcycle, camping, fishing and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter.


Surviving are daughter, Kristy K. Dean and husband Ernest Park of Grand Rapids;


son, Edwin H. Dean IV and wife Katie Kiacz of Flint;


granddaughter, Athena Dean;


brothers, Donald and wife Lois Upper and Darrell Upper;


sister-in-law, Gail Upper;


several brothers and sisters-in-law


many nieces, nephews and cousins;


special friends, Adair and Don Rowe, Denise Bell and Mary Judson,


She is reunited with her beloved husband Edwin, father Donald Upper, mother Shirley Upper and brother Douglas.
