Not sure what to say?

The Larson and Nordwall families were saddened to hear that Dar had died. Joyce, thank you for being her friend as Jerry's sister.

Darlene was a dear friend and a great role model for me. We shared many experiences from the Peace Corps to living in the northern Westchester area in New York. I'll always remember one train ride to the city that was enlivened by talking to Darlene for over an hour. She and Gerry had a great marriage and his loss was unbearable for her. But now we have to survive her loss. I'll always remember her.

I was able to learn to teach partly because Darlene generously opened her classroom door to observers and was willing to talk to us about what we saw afterwards. There must be hundreds more like me. She was a teacher's teacher.

Darlene Larson was the plenary speaker at the first Convention of the Panama TESOL affiliate in September 1987. She agreed to travel to the Republic of Panama during a period of great political turmoil in our country. We have fond memories of her, and we appreciate her contribution to the consolidation of our organization. Our sincere condolences to the members of her family.

Darlene was not only a wonderful person, but also an inspiring advocate for TESOL, and for peace. She will be missed.

Darlene was a friend and always willing counselor to me as a novice caucus chair during my early years with TESOL. I will always remain grateful for her friendship, help, and good counsel. Tomas Wallis
