Not sure what to say?

Remembering his dedication to his art and to teaching. A bright light. Sorry for your loss, our loss.

Darrell was very close to my brother Ed French. We became friends after Ed was murdered. He did a huge painting of Ed years ago. He sent me half of the painting and he kept the other half (Ed taking photo in orange shirt). The half he sent me is hanging in my hall in New Orleans. I tried to touch base by mail but to no avail. He was a very good person and we always had great talks and memories. He was a great artist and loved his work. He will be missed. RIP Darrell, Love Lorrie

Darrell was a great teacher, and passionate artist. I am sorry to learn of his passing,

Darrell was an excellent artist and soft spoken. I am so sorry. Sandra Burshell

I´m so sorry to read this. He taught me 2 still life painting classes. He was painstaking and so knowledgeable but also encouraging and kind. And his work was incredible. Such a loss for so many.

Darrell worked with me at Uptown Frames, and amazed me with his art talent. I think about him often.

Darrell was one of the main pillars of the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts. His departure is a great loss to the Academy and to many of us who have great respect for him as teacher and artist. May St. Luke welcome him into his Heavenly studio.

Darrell was my teacher in introductory (basic) and intermediate drawing and several semesters of intermediate still life oil painting in evening classes from 2007 through 2009 at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts. He was dedicated, knowledgeable, helpful, and funny. He promoted camaraderie among his students. I gave him some loquat (Japanese plum) branches with fruit from our tree that he used as a model for a painting. He told us about growing up around Maurepas but said he didn't like...

I took beginning drawing from Darrell over 10 years ago. He was a wonderful teacher. He wasnt touchy-feely nor did he dish out the compliments. But this is what made him such a great instructor. He was very committed to helping his students improve their art and I am very grateful to have been his student. The world lost a fine teacher in Darrell.
