Darrell and I were track lettermen at the University of Alabama, and his wife Charlotte was my student teacher in plane geometry at Tuscaloosa High School in 1963. My sincere condolences to the Fitts family.

I served under Colonel Fitts in the Marine Corps Reserve unit in Birmingham during the early 1970’s. He was an outstanding leader who was trustworthy and compassionate. My favorite commander during my 6 year stint. My deepest sympathy for his family and friends.
