Darrell E. Koelling Darrell E. Koelling, 82, Kansas City, MO, passed away August 10, 2018 at the Parkway Senior Living Memory Care Center with family at his side. A memorial service (reception to follow) will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 16th, at the John Knox Presbyterian Kirk, 11430 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, MO. Darrell was born on October 4, 1935 in Sweet Springs, MO to Edward and Meda (Fisher) Koelling. He received his merchandising management degree in 1957 from Central Missouri State College where he met Shirley Jean Eberting. They were married December 28, 1958 and together raised their family in South Kansas City. Darrell began his career with the Jones Store, Co. in the men's department after graduation from college. He was promoted to Store Manager of the Metro North Jones Store in 1972, and in 1980 served in the same role at the Bannister Mall location. He was promoted to Vice President of Mercantile Stores and served in that role until his retirement in 1996. In retirement, Darrell devoted his efforts to his new role caregiver to Shirley. He enjoyed golfing, reading, landscaping and visiting with his family and friends. Darrell was preceded in death by his wife (Shirley), parents (Edward and Meda), sister (Lois Thompson). He is survived by his children, Shelley (Joseph) Flanagin, Todd (Ruth) Koelling and Stacy Koelling, and by his grandchildren Michael Flanagin, Connor Flanagin, Tyler Flanagin, Jackson Flanagin, Claire Koelling, Henry Koelling, and Sam Koelling.
