It was an honor and privilege to know Darrell when we were graduate students at USD and I appreciated the time Darrell buzzed my Beresford Band during a concert with his fighter jet. Although he never admitted it, it was memorable moment for all of us. Thanks for the memories.

Mr. Lake was the band director while I attended Hayworth Junior High School, 1967-1970. My fondest personal memory - among many others - was riding with him once in his cherry red Mustang from Hayworth over to Whittier Elementary School for a recital. What an amazing teacher and human being ... my condolences to his entire family.

He was a great band teacher and encouraged me to stay in band in junior high when I wanted to quit because it was to painful to play my instrument with braces on my teeth. I stayed in band and band was a great experience from junior high throughout high school.

Music is the only solace for a loss of a great music educator such as Mr. Lake. I had him for a band Director from fourth through eighth grade. He is the reason I teach today and love kids. There is an extra star in the heaven and listening to band music is my only friend in times such as these. All of the Lake family is in our prayers.
