BROADLANDS - Darrell E. Smith, 76, of Broadlands passed away at home on Saturday (Sept. 14, 2024).

Darrell was born to Clyde and Evelyn (Mitchaner) Smith on May 25, 1948, in Champaign.  He married Jane Wilson on Sept. 11, 1970; she survives.

Darrell was a soldier. During his watch, he lived in Vietnam miseries, later observed Desert Storm triumphs, personally understanding the more horrific the war-making, the quicker it is done. He courageously ministered in this wise foolishness levied on the innocent with a passionate hope for their well-being. He will always be a soldier, God´s soldier. Janie, so sorry to hear of your loss of Darrell, he was a great cousin and I loved to read his messages and pictures from his Army unit 51st Medical postings on Facebook.

Darrell was one of the nicest people I have ever known. Rest in peace.

We are so sorry to hear of Darrell´s passing. It´s sad to lose yet another cousin and family member, such a good man. Please know you are in our hearts and prayers.
