WE WERE SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT MONK. WE WERE FORMER NEIGHBORS OF SAM AND DEBBIE AND OF COURSE, IF YOU KNOW SAM, YOU KNOW MONK. EVERYBODY IN ROANOKE KNEW MONK. WE WERE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE HIM VISIT US THE WINTER OF 2002. HE WAS A JOY TO HAVE AROUND AND I'M SURE OF ONE THING....THERE IS A "CEMENT POND" WAITING ON HIM IN HEAVEN.

I wish I could write the true emotions I felt knowing Monk, and the emotions now as I try to write this. My life and the lives of my family will be forever blessed for knowing him. He is my inspiration to be a better person. Anyone who ever met Monk would say the same. He cared so much for my family, and they for him, my five year and three year old sons called him Grandpa Ward. When we moved away from the old neighborhood, Monk never missed a birthday or Christmas for the boys. It's things...

Monk was a very loving and special person to my family. We were neighbors on "the hill" and friends beyond that. My two boys knew him only as Grandpa Ward, just the way he liked it. We feel so blessed to have had him as a part of our family. He will be greatly missed.

Monk was my dad's fishing and golf buddy. He always had something funny to say and never failed to honk and wave when he drove by if he saw me out in the yard as I was growing up. One time, he "rescued" my mom and us kids from a bat that had gotten into the living room and was flying around. Monk came down to the house armed with a golf club and a tennis racket. Given his golf shot, how he ever thought he'd hit a bat is beyond me.

I am so sorry for your loss. I really liked Monk!! I was always running into him in town and it was always great to talk to him.

Monk will be deeply missed by family and friends.
