I met Darrell in the 8th grade at J L Long Jr high in home room. We then both went to Woodrow Wilson High School and remained close friends. Darrell was one of the first to drive a car - a 1949 4 door Buick - a real tank. We spent many fun time with the gang packed into the tank. We both were characters in the musical The Wizard of Oz : Darrell the Scarecrow and I was the Tinman. After high school we went to Austin College and roomed together our freshman year.
