Not sure what to say?

Darryl: I try to cite your name and those of many other friends I've lost every morning when I ask for guidance. I know you are watching over all your friends and loved ones.

Darryl: Two years later and I still can’t believe you’re not here. I’m sorry I wasn’t a better friend. I say your name and the names of others we’ve lost too soon when I ask for guidance daily. Thank you for your friendship always. Sheldon

Darryl:

This makes no sense. All I can figure is God needed someone cool to run the slot on deadline and He called the best there is. Thank you for being a great colleague. I regret not being a better friend as you certainly extended your friendship on several occasions. Be the best guardian angel for your loved ones and the rest of us. I know you will be. Sheldon

I am so sorry for your loss. May you receive strength and comfort from God. "He will make you firm, he will make you strong, he will firmly ground you." - 1Peter 5:10

Darryl was like a member of the family ever since my sister brought him for a visit from Long Beach State. He was funny, and kind and giving.Yes, he was a masterful writer, but he was an even better friend and human being. The Gilberts will miss him.

When The Mercury-News moved into the new building my office was located on the same floor as the Editorial Department. I had the pleasure of passing Darryl in the hallways all day long. He always smiled and said Hello to me and everyone else for that matter it didn't matter if he worked directly with you or not he said hi with that big smile to everyone.
What a blessing it was to have him around us with that quiet and gentle personality and of course that great smile. What an honor it...

It seems like just last year we were working on The Oregonian Sports section together. Darryl's calm, measured, always-perfect information sticks with me to this day, and the more out-of-control a shift gets, the louder it grows. What an honor it was to work alongside him.
