Not sure what to say?

I recently found out about Darvel's passing and I am deeply saddened. He was a great friend and mentor of mine - I miss him so very much. I remember the evenings around the fire at the Flying L; I remember the many dinners we had together at our favorite Thai and Chinese restaurants; I remember the many hikes we did together in both Oregon and Washington that rekindled my love of nature and the outdoors. Also, I remember Darvel's unconditional kindness and intense love of Mother Earth. I...

It was a true blessing to have known my dear friend Darvel. He was the the kindest gentleman, and very passionate about nature, big trees, exploring and photographing . He showed me the Oxbow Park giant Doug firs in November 2015, and we visited many of the big fir trees in several of Portland's Parks in 2013-2015, and also he and his brother Darryl showed me some of the spectacular giant fir and cedar trees in the Columbia Gorge. Darvel will be greatly missed by all. My condolences to the...

Thank you, dear friends for all of your wonderful and heartfelt words, condolences and stories about Darv. He was not only my twin brother (fraternal), but my closest lifelong friend. I miss him terribly, and will always love him in my heart.

I first met Darvel in 1977 when I joined a Mt. Adams Wilderness Institute trek. Despite challenging situations, he kept our group safe and it was an unforgettable experience. In later years, I was a periodic guest at the Flying L guest ranch, and also did an internship there for my Hospitality & Tourism degree. The last time I saw Darvel and Darryl was at a bookstore presentation for Darryl's book in Portland, in 2019 I think. Darvel was a kind-hearted, wonderful man, who has left us much too...

Darvel is just the kind of person we need in 2021 - a talented and kind human being. In addition to being an amazing mountaineer, he was a good friend to many, a supporter of the arts, and a volunteer for Portland Impact, Friends of Mt. Tabor, and many other organizations that keep the city going in the right direction. I will miss his positivity and light.
