Send Flowers

Flowers on Friday
David Silver had a 2-year-old daughter, Rachel. The shape of her eyes and nose are his. She is going to be tall just like her father, said her mother, who is nine months pregnant. "She is asking about him constantly. 'Where is Daddy? I miss Daddy. How come Daddy is not coming home?' " Holli Silver said. "When the garage door opens, she thinks he's home."

Mr. Silver, 35, was a quiet, private man. And the family's split-level home in New Rochelle was the place he most preferred to be. He doted on his daughter, eager to brag about her exploits in nursery school or camp. He and his wife already had a name chosen for their unborn daughter. Now, Mrs. Silver says she will name the newborn after her husband.

While devoted to his family, Mr. Silver also was committed to his job as vice president of eSpeed, the technology arm of Cantor Fitzgerald in 1 World Trade Center. Every workday, he boarded the 5:09 a.m. train and did not return home until 7:30 p.m. On Friday nights, he often surprised his wife with a luscious bouquet of fresh flowers that he had bought at Grand Central Terminal. "It's like Friday night and I expect him to come with a bunch of flowers. It's hard."

Not sure what to say?

Twenty years have gone by and the pain of that horrible day has not gone away. I worked with Dave on the 103rd floor of Tower 1. The first time I met Dave I was walking down one of the hallways on 103 and my manager was heading in my direction, walking with Dave. They were having a very lively discussion. We all stopped and my manager introduced me to Dave. Well, when he heard what my responsibilities were I could see his eyes light up as he said without hesitation “Oh man, I need one of...

Read about your husband as they announced his name. You have 2 beautiful grown daughters now. So sorry for your loss.

To the family of David Silver, please accept my heartfelt sympathies. I had the absolute pleasure of having worked with Dave at Commerzbank. When a computer problem arose, it was always comforting to see Dave's face. He had this infectious smile. Not many people felt comfortable coming down to the trading room to deal with our problems. Dave was the exception to that fact. Dave's sense of humor help us relax and he was so darn good and efficient at what he did! Dave, my gentle giant...

I remember you as a childhood friend, the kind that stays deep within one's heart as time passes by. What strikes me most about my memories of you were you kindness, innocence and good nature.. Your father's warnings of the bad guys in life will haunt me forever as we all sat around the kitchen table after school. I guess he was gearing us all up for the real world. We didn't want to hear him. We wanted more of his cookies! Ten years ago today, our innocence was lost. And for that, my heart...

I worked on a few projects for Dave at eSpeed after I was hired in August 2000. He was a great manager to work for because he didn’t micro-manage the project, allowed you to apply creativity to the work, and was fair in his assessments. On top of all that he always maintained a wonderful sense of humor and really made you feel comfortable about your work efforts.

I know how eagerly he was awaiting the birth of his new baby and to this day it breaks my heart that he was not able to...

My Dear Beautiful Brother David,
10 years have passed and I look at your beautiful photo and it is still not real to me that you are gone. I miss your beautiful smile, i miss your funny jokes, i miss you sooo soo much that it hurts to write about you. I miss eating ice-cream with you, and you know how much we loved to do that! Since Dad also died on this day, i know the both of you are looking down and laughing at me for crying over you both and I can certainly hear you guys say "Snap...

I lived a few blocks from the WTC on that horrific day. In the midst of overwhelming loss, destruction and national sorrow, finding your business card on my balcony amongst the debris reminded me that each victim was a unique and cherished individual. I still carry that vivid memory with me along with your business card and I pray for you and your family on this day.

Happy Birthday!!!

God Bless you, David, and your beautiful family, amen.
