Point Man in a Clinch
At the end of every day, David Vera and his daughter, Jennica, greeted each other with a scream. Their salutation was always the same: "I love you twice as much as anything you could say, universe, infinity and beyond the galaxies to the fifth dimension."

Now, when the door opens, Ms. Vera, who came from Puerto Rico two years ago to live with her father, still expects to hear his voice.

She will remember him most for his strict parenting. On her prom night, Ms. Vera's date had to grasp her father's keys so that Mr. Vera would have copies of the young man's fingerprints. "He would always say he trusted me, but he didn't trust the world," said Ms. Vera, 18. "He was very overprotective."

Mr. Vera, 41, who lived in Brooklyn, was the senior telecommunications technician at Euro Brokers. He also had a sacred fitness ritual. He exercised every day, but reserved Saturdays for pickup basketball games in Park Slope. "He wasn't too much of a dribbler, but if you left him alone he'd burn you," said a longtime friend, Eddie Claudio. "He was a go-to guy. The type of guy that if you needed help he was there in clinch time."

Not sure what to say?

Dave, Steve, Beverly, Barry, Jose and Sal- We have all- except you- grown older. The time that has stood still for you is measurable but the grief from the loss of a treasured person is immeasurable. Today, on yet another anniversary of you being taken from us- there is still no limit to the grief felt for it or the memories the mind and heart hold fondly onto. You will be missed and thought of ALWAYS.

9/11- Twenty-two years might as well be 22 minutes- time has stopped, Steve Chucknick, David Vera, Barry Young, Beverly Curry, Sal Fiumefreddo, and Jose Marrero- There have been very few in my life who can compare to you all. The world and its people have changed so much in these 22 years. Yet, you set the bar for excellence in humanity, trustworthiness and kindness. I am forever grateful to you all for the successes I achieved in business because of having you as clients- and forever...

The years can never erase the empty void left when you left me but I carry you forever in my heart and know what a hero looks like. My children will learn about your bravery and selflessness. I love you twice as much as anything you can say, universe, infinity and beyond! Always ♡

In honor of those lost on 9/11 and to those who were my clients, my dear friends- whose kindness paid tribute to my life's successes- Steven Chucknick and David Vera- both who I last spoke to that very morning, at 8:46am and was told of their needing to evacuate their South Tower because of a fire' in the next building - who together with Barry Young and Jose Marrero of Eurobrokers, Beverly Curry of Cantor Fitzgerald, whose laughter I had shared just two months before at a summer celebration...
