David Jackson Athey

I'm shocked to learn of Dave's passing. The Athey family and my family attended the same church when Dave and I were growing up, but I didn't get to know him until we were both working in the Delaware engineering community. Over the years we would see each other professionally, occasionally working on the same project, but mostly just enjoying exchanging ideas and career advice. I will remember Dave fondly and my heartfelt condolences to Lori and Dave's family.

My sincerest condolences to Dave's wife Lori, family members, and colleagues. Dave was a strong champion and supporter of the Delaware League of Local Governments -- both in his role as a professional engineer and as a former City of Newark, DE elected official. He will be greatly missed by Delaware's local leaders and all who have been touched by his kindness and compassion for public service.

Dave will always live on in the many lives he touched. He was an exemplar in many communities. He was stalwart and funny, kind and compassionate, intelligent and smart. One of the absolute best people I have ever known. His work at the UUFN made a huge difference and he is dearly missed.
