He was the first born child to David French Bacon Jr. and Geneva Bacon (Buckles) on November 26, 1940 in Natchez, Mississippi. David was a multifaceted man with a zest for life, music, sports, travelling and a love of people always ready to assist others. Growing up during the civil rights movement he was committed to making a difference in the communities he lived in through education, mentoring, fundraising and organization affiliations. David's education began in Natchez at St. Francis Catholic School and graduated high school from the historic Sadie V. Thompson High School.
David was baptized at King Solomon Baptist Church (Natchez) in 1956, and later converted to Catholicism. When he relocated to Indianapolis he joined Allen Chapel AME Church serving faithfully as a trustee for many years. Prior to his illness, David established a membership with St. Mark's #2 Church often driving on Sundays to attend service in the Kingston community in Natchez, Mississippi.
In 1959, David entered Southern University, A&M. While attending Southern University, David participated in the ROTC and was a member of the world famous Southern University Marching Band and became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity of which he is a lifetime member. David met his loving wife Amelia while attending Southern. He and Amelia married in 1965.

During his college years he served as Polemarch of the Southern University Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity(Alpha Sigma Chapter) and served as a past Exchequer of the Indianapolis Chapter. Because he believed in making sure that young men prospered he and some of other community leaders founded the Indianapolis Chapter of 100 Black Men. One of his proudest accomplishments was the collaboration between the 100 Black Men and Jack and Jill of America of Indianapolis, which his wife, Amelia was the chapter president, who created the Beautillion Militaire in Indianapolis. He was a former Key Club member of the United Way of Indianapolis. After David's retirement and his move to Alabama his work continued as he became a member of the NAACP, Volunteer for the Boys and Girls Club of South Alabama and the Alabama Annual Mayor's Golf Tournament, Former Coach of the Mobile Seagulls Semi Pro Football team, a member of the Mardi Gras Mystery Krewe of the Gulf Coast Lodge, Tommie Agee Foundation. David had a passion for seeing the world and that passion was realized as he travelled extensively in the states and intercontinentally to Italy, Spain, Portugal, Africa, London, Japan and the Caribbean.

Not sure what to say?

It seems like it was only yesterday that David would drive over from Mobile to SU football games and stop by where we would sit at my kitchen table and share stories. We miss him pray for his love ones.

If we could pick and choose the love ones we would like to keep by our side, David would fare high on our list. We do have some comfort in knowing that if we hide the word in our hearts that we will meet him on the other side. Rest on my brother and we will see you on that great getting up morning.

I worked with David at News America Marketing, my condolences/love to the family. David was a good man with a great heart.

May you rest in peace.

Our Prayers are with all of you, remember that : " Weeping may endure for a night, but JOY comes in the Morning"

While he will be missed, his legacy lives on in all the lives he impacted and touched.

So sorry to hear about your brother. I know you will miss him.

May God Grant you and yours peace that only He can give. Our prayers and thoughts are with you. Ernest & Cleopathia Bell

May the love of God bring peace and consolation to this family, my family. We will keep all of you in our payers.
