BALDERSON, David Lee, died Tuesday morning, July 2, 2013 at his home in Farnham, Va. He was born December 4, 1939 at Walnut Point, Northumberland County, Va., the son of the late Bernard Lee Balderson and Essie Caroline Newsome Balderson. David's career began with his service in the United States Marine Corps from September 15, 1958 to December 14, 1962. David served with the Marine Corps Aircraft Station in Cherry Point, N.C. David reported to NSWC, formerly the Naval Weapons Laboratory, Dahlgren, Va., in April 1963 and was supply management officer, the position from which he retired on May 17, 1991, after completing 28 years with the federal government. David was worshipful master of Heathsville Masonic Lodge #109 in 1977. He was the 100th worshipful master of the lodge, which was established in 1877. On October 19, 1981, he married Dinah Shifflett Balderson, who survives him. Also surviving are two sons, David Lee Balderson II "Buddy," and his wife, Linda, of Sandston, Va., Russell Kelly Balderson "Rusty," and his wife, Shelley, of Gloucester, Va.; two stepsons, Eric Channing Brown of San Francisco, Calif., and Mark Vernon Brown of Fredericksburg, Va.; six grandchildren, Aaron L. Balderson, Casey L. Balderson, David Lee Balderson III "Lee", Josh Morgan, Melissa Wilson, and Olivia Setliff; two nephews, Kenneth D. Gordon of Florida, and Curtis R. Gordon of Farnham, Va. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Ann Gordon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the Welch Funeral Home, Marks Chapel with interment following in Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Welch Funeral Home, Marks Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richmond County Fire Dept., Farnham Division.
