David V. Benfer

BENFER , David V. Another WWII vet passed into the memory of friends and family January 14, 2012. Dave V. Benfer , grew up in the Towson/Baltimore area attending Govans Elementary, Roland Park Jr. High, and Baltimore Polytechnic Institute ('44). After serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps, he returned to Baltimore joining the many veterans attending the University of Maryland, earning his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a charter member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, Delta Sigma Chapter making many lifelong friends. After graduation, he continued his service to America as an officer of the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He enjoyed a long career with AMP Inc., Harrisburg, PA, receiving nine significant patents for various new tools and new products. He is survived by his beloved wife Eileen; his son David and wife Donna; and grandsons Brian and Adam of NC and Kevin of AZ who were his pride and joy. Also surviving are his brother Donald Benfer and wife Carolyn of Towson; and their sons Keith of Westminster and Eric of Columbia and their families; and his brother Col. Richard Benfer and wife Jeanneane of Virginia; and their sons Richard and Jim also of Virginia and son, Jack of Florida and their families.
A celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, Charles St. and Northern Parkway, Baltimore, MD 21210; Baltimore Polytechnic Institute Scholarship Fund; University of MD Scholarship Fund; Delta Tau Delta Scholarship Fund; or the Wounded Warrior Project.
