(1952-2018)
David Leslie Bertrand passed away on December 9th, 2018, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on June 16th, 1952, in London, England, to Joan and Leslie Bertrand and was their only child.
David was a loving husband to his wife of 45 years, JoAnn.
David lived his life as an example to others. He was a devoted son, husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather. He loved Jesus Christ and was an active member of his church. He was also active in his community. David was kind and encouraging to others and believed wholly in equality and social justice. He adored his family and read to his granddaughters every weekend for years. They will cherish those memories forever.
David's primary career was in the airline industry, but he found a passion post-retirement while working as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, first in Venice, Florida and later in Exeter, New Hampshire. He loved people and because of this spent lots of time with his customers, stopping often on his routes, greeting them and catching up on all their news.
He loved all sports but none more than football (soccer) and was a lifelong supporter of the Arsenal Football Club. Two weeks before he died, he jokingly expressed disappointment over not being able to see England play in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League next June.
He is survived by his mother, Joan Bertrand; his wife, JoAnn Bertrand; his son, Matthew David Bertrand; his daughter-in-law, Harmony Bertrand; his daughter, Lindsay Joan Carideo; his son-in-law, Daniel Carideo; and his granddaughters, Emma and Sophie Carideo.
A memorial service will be held at Hope Community Church in Newburyport, MA on Monday December 17th at 11:30AM.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in David's memory.
