David J. Blanchard, 82, passed away quietly and peacefully on Thursday, September 25th.
Born in Holyoke, he was the son of the late John J. and Mary (Ford) Blanchard. David was a proud graduate of South Hadley High School, Class of 1960, and went on to earn his Associate in Science degree from Holyoke Junior College, where he completed the basic engineering curriculum.
David began his professional journey at J. Russell & Company as a clerk before joining his father in the family home heating oil business. He later became the owner and operator of Blanchard Oil Company, continuing the family legacy with dedication and integrity. He proudly held a Massachusetts Construction Supervisor license, which he utilized each summer while completing home improvement projects for his dedicated clients. His strong work ethic and craftsmanship were widely admired.
A skilled and passionate fisherman, David found great joy in teaching and sharing his love of the sport with his sons and grandsons. He also gave back to his community as a youth soccer coach in the Holyoke Youth Soccer League, mentoring young athletes and supporting local sports.
David is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy; sons David M. Blanchard and his wife Wanda, Jonathan Blanchard, and Michael Blanchard and his wife Carrie; his sister Elizabeth “Liz” Methot; sister-in-law Priscilla Brochu; and his cherished grandchildren Sebastian, Benjamin, Gabriel, Nathaniel, and Sierra. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who offered him comfort and companionship throughout his life.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 1st, from 10:00–11:00 a.m. at the O’Brien Family Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery.
