MANSFIELD: David Lee "Baby Dave" Brent, Sr., 78, suddenly passed this life on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Brent was born on Thursday, July 9, 1936 to the late Lemuel and Geneva Thompson Brent in Canton, Mississippi and had lived in Mansfield the past 60 years. David was employed with Humphrey Plumbing Manufacturing retiring in 1978 after 20 years of service. The joyus pleasures of his life were fishing, and gardening. The loves of his life were spending time with his family, friends, and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

David is survived by nine children: David (Ann) Brent, Jr, Amy Brent, Adam T. Brent, Howard L. Otis, Christopher Shepherd, Mansfield, Charlotte Jett, Ann Arbor, Michigan, Shirley (Elison) Pettway, Bellville, Michigan, Clinton (Gloria) Greene, Chicago, Angela Shepherd-McCabe, Tuskegee, Alabama; 32 grandchildren including Lisa and Tikece Brent whom he raised; 41 great grandchildren; three brothers: Charles Brent, Mansfield, and Peter and Ulysess Brent, Jackson, Mississippi; numerous nieces and nephews including a special nephew, James Brent, Jackson.

In addition to his parents David was also preceded in death by his wife: Gladys; two daughters: Ellanesse Leggions, Barbara Brooks; five siblings: Gertrude Hood and Pearl Jefferson, Samuel, Ernest and John Brent.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 11:00 AM in the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. James Crosby officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of his son, David, 412 W. Sixth St. daily from 5-9 p.m. till the day of service.

I am saddened to hear that Uncle David has passed on, he will be missed. I will never forget his cheerful smile and outgoing attitude. He was always concerned about family and how everyone was doing. Our thoughts and prays are with you all during your this time of loss.
