With Respect and Enduring Memories-

As an undergrad business student at USF's SP campus in the late '70s I didn't appreciate it at the time but the faculty included a few extraordinary thinkers and educators. David Carr's passionate search for understanding and boundless devotion to his students left an indelible imprint on those who were fortunate to be challenged by his classes.
As I struggle to make sense of the world around me and try in my small way to contribute, it is impossible to know how being exposed to his...

I was greatly saddened to learn of the death of David Carr. He and I were in grad school together at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. I remember him and his wife, Guna, as genuinely kind and generous friends. I will cherish his memory.

It was always a delight to be at a dinner party where Dave was present because I could always count on his wit, good nature and humor to bring me some happiness... I never got to fish with Dave but we shared stories and fly fishermen in particular are kindred spirits... Often we would see each other at a stop light at 22nd avenue on the way to work... his smile and demeanor was contagious - I knew it was going to be a good day when I saw Dave...Guna is equally exceptional and no wonder they...

Dave and I met more than 50 years ago as classmates at Gove Junior High in Denver. We hit it off from the first pitch, becoming straight men for each other's humor. Then we found we could do cartoons together. So, the principal capitalized on this talent and had us do a giant mural in the school hall. We felt we were ready for a future at MAD magazine. Then we grew up. He went off and accomplished an incredible act of bliss: he married Guna. With my wife Paula, the four of us connected in...

I was very privileged to have Professor Carr as my history professor at USF-St. Petersburg. Always passionate and enthusiastic about his subject, he taught his students not only how to properly cite sources, but to love and appreciate the stories and lessons of history as much as he did. He challenged my writing and arguments in a way no other professor has and for that I am forever grateful to him. He will be greatly missed by all at USF-St. Petersburg, especially among those who share his...

My favorite professor ever. He encouraged, provoked, inspired, and amused me. A rare talent that will be missed. My condolences to his family.

Larry and I will miss David and his clever sense of humor. An evening at the Carrs' always meant a few things (besides no cheese)! The intellectual bar was set high and the conversation spirited. David always challenged you to think a little harder, be a little brighter. He encouraged you to question everything and evaluate critically. All this over cocktails!! Lucky students......and how fortunate for us to have known him! Susan Emerson
