In 1965, David lived across the hall from me in the cheapest dorm on the UT campus and became a friend for life. Did not see him as much as I should have over the years, but his smile, intelligence and subtle wit never changed. David was a talented writer, a kind friend and a wonderful person. Condolences to his family.

David was a gifted writer and journalist and, more importantly, a great person. I cherish our friendship and will always fondly remember his humor in the pressboxes we shared over the years.

I had the pleasure of being a Casstevens next door neighbor during the time his children were born. There were so many girls born on our block at the time we all wondered if there really was "something in the water". I most remember Trick or Treating in our wonderful historic neighborhood. David was always just the nicest person , adored his children and a truly gentle soul. He left a kindness mark that has withstood over 40 years.
