Not sure what to say?

Joan: I would like to add my own sorrow at David's passing and pay tribute to his enduring inspiration as a man and rower. As a fellow rower at the PBC, I found him an always congenial friend, ready to share experiences and insights. I remember fondly the thoughtful note he left on my windshield after a Head of the Charles race, congratulating me on a race well rowed. My red truck was parked right outside your hotel across from the rowing club where we launched our boats. As someone still...

To Joan and family......

It was my privilege to instruct your children in Hamden for at home Religious Ed........I cherish those days and the unique family you were and are. David was a strong Father for his children and a perfect compliment to you, Joan.....my condolences..Peace

Dear Joan, and family- David has been a fast friend, and has provided an invaluable sounding board during our numerous impromptu encounters at PBC. He has helped me immensely with some of my work. And, I still have his original Van Dusen. His heart may have given out, but not his soul. Never.

From 1974 to 1977, David was the
"guardian angel" of the struggling
Institute of Ecology.
He ensured that we could draw upon resourcesof the Smithsonian while we sought grants from foundations. In turn, we provided links to participating universities and environmental organizations. Sadly, we could not fulfill the dream ofa national agency roughly comparable to the National Institutes of Health. I am still grateful for David's help!

With heartfelt sympathy to Dave Challinor's family.

It was an honor and privelege to have known Dave Challinor. To me, he always represented the sparkle in the star of our rowing club. He embodied the spirit to row, and endeared us with his dedication to our shared sport. Beyond that, his memory will always remind me that there really are eagles soaring in the sky over the Potomac River!

he will be missed, my condolescences,

Sylvia Frayne (Potomac Boat Club)

David Challinor was highly esteemed within the community of alumni from the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies. His legacy will live on in those he mentored. We will miss his wisdom.

I met David through the Washington Biography Group, enjoyed his company, his merry humor, and most of all his support. He was very helpful to me when I was writing about the Bush family dynasty. I extend my condolences to his family on the loss of such a fine man.

I didn't know Dave very well, but I used to brag to my (83 year-old) mother that there was someone older than her rowing every day on the Potomac! It was life-affirming to see him carry that 24-foot shell over his head and plunk it in the water so expertly. He will be missed.
Eva Sullivan - Potomac Boat Club

I did not know Mr. Challinor very well but we always asked each other "how the water was" if the other had just come back from a row at PBC.

He was always ready and great to chat with.

My codolenses.
