CHEN, Dr. David Chi-Huei, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, May 8, 2009. Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home with TRMC Chaplain Paul Hamilton officiating. Dr. Chen graduated from Taipei Medical University in 1967 and he and his wife, Nancy, emigrated from Taiwan in 1968. Following an internship at Long Island College Hospital and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Kings County Hospital, Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., he undertook further training in Endocrine and Infertility at the Robert Wood Johnson Hospitals in New Brunswick, N.J. Eager to start a new practice, Dr. Chen moved with his family to Orangeburg, S.C. in 1976 where he practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology with unfailing and selfless commitment to his patients and the Orangeburg community until his death. Dr. Chen believed in and realized the American Dream, applying hard work, dedication, and compassion in every facet of his life and successfully bringing several generations of children into this world as well as raising and providing for his own four children. He will be remembered as an excellent physician, a mentor, and most importantly, a loving husband and caring father. We all miss him dearly. Dr. Chen is survived by his wife, Nancy Hsia Chen, of the home; two sons, Dr. Stephen Min Chen and wife, Victoria, of Richmond, Va.; and Robert William Chen, of New York, N.Y.; two daughters, Grace Chen of Oakland, Calif., and E. Janet Chen and husband, Dominic Cheng of Hong Kong; five brothers and two sisters of Taiwan; and three grandchildren, Gabrielle, Amelia and John David Chen, of Richmond, Va. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home, Orangeburg, S.C.
