Funeral services for David Cockerham, 76, of Wills Point, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Rev. Johnny Herriage officiating. Interment will follow at Haven of Memories Memorial Park in Canton. He passed away early Monday morning, May 11, 2015, at his residence in Wills Point. David was born on November 12, 1938, in the Hayden Community south of Wills Point, the son of Henry Benjamin Cockerham and Ada Elizabeth Cooper Cockerham. He was raised in the Hayden Community and graduated from Wills Point High School. David later attended Henderson County Junior College in Athens and East Texas State University in Commerce. He was a veteran of the United States Marines. On April 30, 1959, he married Virginia Nichols in Las Vegas, Nevada. David was employed by General Motors in Arlington and Texas Instruments in Dallas. For twenty-seven years, he was employed by the Wills Point I.S.D., where he was a 7th and 8th grade math teacher, retiring in 1994 and a school bus driver for 30 years. He enjoyed raising cattle, gardening and fishing. David was a member of the Wills Point Masonic Lodge #422 and was on the Board of Directors for the MacBee Water System. He was a member of Hayden Baptist Church south of Wills Point, where he was Sunday School teacher for the Men's Class for over thirty years and also had served as a Deacon. Preceded in death by his parents, Henry Benjamin and Ada Elizabeth Cockerham; five brothers, Harold, Naville, Jack, Eugene and John Cockerham and two sisters, Judy Forester and Elizabeth Morrison. David is survived by his wife, Virginia Cockerham, of Wills Point; four sons, Rusty Cockerham, of Wills Point, Kirt Cockerham & wife, Jackie, of Wills Point, Joey Cockerham & wife, Kristin, of Austin and Chris Cockerham & wife, Melissa, of Clemmons, North Carolina; two sisters, Helen Neill & husband, John, of Wills Point and Betty Furrh & husband, Ted, of Mesquite; sister-in-law, Bernice Cockerham, of Tyler and four grandchildren, Jacob Cockerham, Garrett Cockerham, Elizabeth Cockerham and Emily Cockerham. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
