David W. "Dave" Cole

I am so sorry to see that Dave has passed but sure he has joined my mom and the others from St Johns that went before him.Dave was a kind and compassionate man who enriched my life with his faith and humility

'Prof' Cole was my second teacher for INTRO TO LITERATURE. I had given up on the same class the previous Semester. It was like night turned to day. Dave was brilliant and instead of expecting us to regurgitate information from a text book that 'explains' literature, he wanted us to think for ourselves and he made it fun. I was Dave's colleague at UW-Baraboo and the Baraboo/Oxford Program for twenty years. For five of those years we were office mates on campus. I still recall the many conversations we had over the broadest range of subjects and our nearly one hundred percent agreement on them (to be expected, I suppose, from two English PhD's). What a great guy! And what a great teacher! I extend my felt condolences to Dave's family.
