Mr. David L. Craig Sr was born on March 25, 1945 to the late Louie Craig and Hattie Mae White Craig.


He departed this life on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Atrium Health. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by two brothers, Napoleon Craig and Billy Craig; three sisters, Geraldine Raines, Sereatha Land, and Helen Ruth Wylie.


David L was born in South Carolina but moved to Charlotte, NC, at a very young age. He graduated from York Road High School in 1964.


David became a professional driver, which included operating a passenger motor coach and a commercial truck. David had so many stories to tell about his adventures as a driver.


David retired early from Con-Way Enterprise in 2001, purchased his own truck, becoming an owner-operator. He continued to drive professionally in some capacity until the end of May 2020.


David was a devoted and faithful member of Clinton Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. He loved his church and his church family. He serve on the Steward Board, Trustee Board of which he was chairperson for several years, Men's Booster Ministry, Pacesetters Ministry, and the Audio Ministry. Additionally, David served as president of the Charlotte District Men's Booster Ministry for a number of years.

David will be remembered as a loving, devoted and supportive husband, a loyal friend, and a stranger to none.


Those cherishing fond and loving memories include his loving and devoted wife of twenty-four years, Gwendolyn (Sunshine), Children: Ricky, David Jr., Damon Ferguson (Stacy), and Jasmine Ferguson, all of Charlotte, NC. Sisters: Tecora Craig, Lula Usher, Alfreda Falls (Robert), and Julia Craig, all of Charlotte. Twelve grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives and friends.

David was a great man. He was a friend to not only myself, but my family as well. Always willing to help out with what we needed. He is missed and I am thankful for times like this when his memory can be honored.
