David S. Crites of Rochester Hills passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024. David was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Glenda Crites, and his son, Brett Crites. David is survived by his sister Bronwyn (Gary) Hintz, his daughter Wendy (Donald) Van Camp; his son Chris Crites (Jennifer Steele) and Kimberly Young; loving grandfather of Brandy (Dan) Fahlquist, Kyle Van Camp, Trevor Van Camp (Danielle Jenkins), Steven (Kaitlen) Crites, Ashli Hildebrand, Paige (David) Shock, Jacob Crites, Shauna Ingalls, and Macklin Steele; great grandfather of Hunter, Bentley, Sophia, Cameron, Harper, Noah, Cade, Bruce, and Timothy. He is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews, 15 great nieces and nephews and 2 great-great nieces and nephews. David was known as dad, pops & papa to countless others. Also surviving David is his much-loved Shetland Sheepdog, Lulu.
David was a graduate of Pontiac Northern High School. David began his General Motors career immediately after graduating, starting in the mailroom and working his way to 8th Level Manager of the Specifications Department. He retired from General Motors after 40 years. In his post-retirement years, David delivered flowers for Jacobson’s Flowers. He enjoyed this because he always said that his clients were either “happy to see him or deceased.”
In his younger years, David enjoyed working on and cruising (racing) muscle cars, bowling, playing softball, coaching little league baseball for his sons and watching any and every sport imaginable. David never missed an opportunity to root on his favorite Detroit teams. In his later years, David also enjoyed mowing his lawn on his John Deere, never wanting anyone else to do it for him and taking in a summer afternoon in his lawn chair with Lulu by his side. David loved his family fiercely and always enjoyed a good cookout, holiday dinner, or taco night. He will be missed deeply by all who were lucky enough to know him.
Cremation was arranged by Sparks-Griffin Funeral home in Pontiac and a memorial
service will be held at a later date.
Will be missed by many.
