Not sure what to say?

I'm so sorry to hear of David's death. His parents were in the choir with me at Holy Faith in Santa Fe and he was the choir director at St James in Baton Rouge, which was the church I grew up in.

Dear Lubna, we met briefly at Zisa Palace, and you told me a bit about your husband's career after learning I'd like to become a professor. I found this page as I hoped to learn more about him, and am sending my deepest sympathy. It sounds like you lived life to the fullest together, and I hope your many memories bring comfort. This September, I'll visit the Grolier Club and will think of you both. With warmest condolences,

My sincere condolences to the family for your loss. May your treasured memories and the drawing close to God in prayer help comfort you in your time of sorrow. Jeremiah 29:12, 13

MAY THE THOUGHT OF KNOWING THAT FAMILY AND FRIENDS SHARE IN YOUR GRIEF BRING YOU A MEASURE OF COMFORT.PLEASE READ PROV 17:17

It is with shock and sadness that I hear this news. David (and Lubna) are two of my favorite people. My sympathy and prayers for strength go out to Lubna.

Deepest sympathy to the Culbert family. May the strength from God sustain you through this difficult time now and in the days ahead. May you have a measure of comfort as you share cherished memories.

He was the only professor we knew who could pack an 8:30am lecture on a Friday. He always told us to avoid platitudes and cliches, but, just this once, we think we can say he will truly be missed. Our condolences to friends and family. He was a fantastic professor.

From our days in the immortal Oberlin College Choir of 1962-63 and our study with Robert E. Neill at Oberlin to our recent re-connection in the realm of Islamic carpets and the art of Palestine, I count myself so fortunate to have enjoyed the light cast by David and Lubna, and by David's, wit, wisdom, and love of beauty in art, music, and friendship.

David was a passionate scholar, a great colleague and a dear friend. I will miss him. He inspired my own research and taught me that in academia you can indeed question existing academic works with a good sense of humor. Thanks for all our conversations!
