TOUJOURS PRET!

I served in the same company as Ssg self during his last tour. The CO needed his best NCO to rip with the incoming company one last time and he was always ready. Toujours pret! I am always thankful for having served with an NCO of his caliber. He is always held in my thoughts. God speed Ssg self, and thank you.

My name is Edie Self and, while I did not know your David Self, I did know another war hero named David A. Self, Jr. who was my Father-in-law. I know he would want me to tell you how proud we are of you, David, how much you will be missed here on earth, but most of all, how much we honor, respect, and love you for protecting us with your every action and your very life. I know my Dad-in-law Dave is up there, with you now, and shaking your hand. We 'Selfs' will never forget you.

I served with Self from 2001 - 2003 at FT. Lewis, WA & 2005 - 2007 at FT. Hood, TX. During our time in TX, I'd the privilege of being his roommate and riding with him in his "big" red Dodge truck. Dave was also my best man at my first marriage while I was stationed at FT. Lewis, WA. Dave will always be missed as a friend and a his soldier in my heart. I just wish Dave had of taking my advice and got out and did something else than Army. Either way, Dave enjoyed being a12B (Combat Engineer) and serving his country. To Dave Self, I wish you could of visited me and my new family in Florida someday. So we could of had a few beers and drove around in your "big" red Dodge truck. Dave I really miss you!

I loved him... he was my best friend in the world growing up. I was devastated when he moved to Mississippi, away from me and Las Vegas... that was the last time I'd see him, although we would talk on the phone every now and then. I love you brother.. why didn't we ever actually work on getting together for a good night of drinking instead of always talking about it???????????????????//

David was a good friend and one of the best Non commissioned officers I have known in my military career. I served with him in Afghanistan and would go thru any war with him if he was still with us today. David will always be in our prayers and in our memories as a soldier, a nco, and a great friend. Its been almost two years and I still shed tears for the loss of a great friend and a brother in arms.

You were a great NCO and we won't for get that every time we talk about you its hard not to bring a tear I guess that's why it took so long. I miss and love you brother. To his family I'm sorry for your loss I know he is doing better now.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

I Salute You.

I am Deeply Saddened to learn of the loss of SSgt David D. Self. The Price this Brave Young Soldier and his family have paid for this country and for freedom, Will Not Be Forgotten.
There will Never Be Enough Ways to Humbly Thank our Young Heroes for their Sacrifices, my brother among them, killed in action in Vietnam in 1967.

I am sincerely hoping that you can feel the thoughts of caring and support that surround you today and in the difficult days ahead, as this Grateful Country mourns with you, for Someone Very Precious to you, Who Is A True American Hero to all of us.

"Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee." ~ Psalm 55:22 ~

You are in my thoughts and prayers
