Feerick Funeral Home - Shorewood Obituary

David S. Dahl, 80, passed away on February 26th following a brief but valiant battle with brain cancer. Survived by cherished wife of 53 years, Janet Orr Dahl; daughters Sarah (Steve) Gednalske and Elizabeth Dahl; son Christopher Dahl and special friend Megan; adored grandson William Gednalske; sister-in-law Susan Phillips; nephew Peter (Jennifer) and three great-nephews; other beloved family members, friends and colleagues.

Born in Albert Lea, MN on 3/17/36 to Selmer and Dorothy Dahl, David earned his Associate's degree from Waldorf College in Forest City, IA and his Bachelor's degree, with honors in Chemistry, from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. He received his MD from the University of Iowa in 1963. David practiced neurology in Madison and Milwaukee for nearly 40 years and was a clinical professor of neurology at the University of Wisconsin Medical School for the duration of his career. He devoted his career to serving people in the city of Milwaukee at Aurora-Sinai Medical Center. Following his retirement in 2007, he volunteered his expertise at the Bread of Healing Clinic until January 2017. He was widely admired for his idealism and commitment to the ethical practice of medicine. David loved to travel, read, and was an active member of the congregation and choir at Plymouth Church UCC. Ever the teacher, his last lesson is the donation of his brain to cancer research.

David's family expresses deep gratitude to the care providers at Aurora-St. Luke's Medical Center, who treated him with affection, dignity and care. We also are indebted to the caregivers at Aurora Zilber Family Hospice, who made sure that David's final days were peaceful and comfortable. Services will be held on March 25th at 2pm at Plymouth Church UCC, 2717 E. Hampshire Street, Milwaukee, WI 53211, family will greet friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in David's name may be made to Plymouth Church UCC or Cross Lutheran Church-Bread of Healing, 1821 N. 16th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53205 or Planned Parenthood, 302 N. Not sure what to say?

I worked as a secretary to Dr. Dahl for 2 years when he was located at Aurora Sinai Hospital. He was a wonderful boss and a kind and compassionate doctor to his patients. He truly was one of a kind.

My Deepest Sympathy, Dr. Dahl became my Neurologist at the tender age of 15, he diagnosed me with having epilepsy. His heartfelt, sincere guidance, enabled me to understand that my life was not limited, and I could still be functional in society. I just called Aurora Medical Hospital, because I wanted to become his patient again because I missed him as my treating physician. .....................Ms. A. Spicer

The patients, volunteers and staff at the Bread of healing clinic still miss him dearly!

Dave on vacation

Who can forget Dave humming and whistling
at the same time, at our daughter Molly's
wedding.......quite a feat. It earned him a
spot on The Johnny Carson show (with Jay
Leno as guest host).
The Dahls were our neighbors on Beverly
Road. We have such wonderful memories
of that time and beyond.
Janet, Sarah, Beth and Chris......our love to you.

I remember my visits to the Dahl house so fondly. The first one being when I was lucky enough to become friends with Sarah in 7th grade. The last visit was just this past December. Dr. Dahl was kind, brilliant and funny. I know he will be sorely missed.
