David Daly died December 30, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. He was born July 6, 1935 in Holyoke to the late Timothy and Rose (Finn) Daly, and lived in South Hadley all of his life. David graduated from South Hadley High School, where he met his wife of 62 years, Delores Augusta. David began his nearly 65 year long career as a Pharmacist at Dietle’s Drug Store in South Hadley Falls as a teenager, and later moved to Canon’s Pharmacy in the center in the early 1970’s. The 1981 fire in the center lead him to Western Mass Hospital and he finished his career at Center Pharmacy in Granby, at age 80. David was a long-standing member of the South Hadley Lions Club where he once served as President, in addition to being honored in the Hall of Fame and as a recipient of the highest honor: the Melvin Jones Award. In 2007, David was honored as the town’s Marshall for the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day parade. The following year he was named “Man of the Year” by the Town of South Hadley in conjunction with the South Hadley Lions Club. He was also a member of the South Hadley Parade Committee, and contributed to the creation of several award-winning floats. David was also a member of the South Hadley Historical Society and served as the Water Commissioner for District 1 for many years. He also served on the St. Patrick’s Parish Council and was an usher for over 30 years. When not serving the community, David enjoyed family time at Cape Cod, cross country skiing, and traveling the world with his sister, brother, and their spouses. David will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and most importantly a great friend. He will also be remembered for his long naps in the pool, his impeccable flower garden, and his signature blue horse show chair. David leaves his children Timothy, Christopher, and Elizabeth, his granddaughter Caroline, his nephew Robert Krausse, sister Mary Daly Clark and her husband Terry and their children Terry and Timothy, his brother Thomas and his wife Ann and their children Thomas and Maura, and family friends John and Debbie Murphy and their children Ellen and Jason. He was predeceased by his wife Delores in September 2018, his sister-in-law Mercia Augusta Krausse in 2016, his brother-in-law Robert Krausse in 2013, and his daughter-in-law Christine Himes Daly in 2011. The funeral will be Friday at 9 am from Curran-O’Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley followed by Mass at 10am at St Patrick's Church, 30 Main St. South Hadley. Burial in St. Rose Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the South Hadley Lions Club at P.O Box 81, South Hadley, MA 01075. Not sure what to say?

I hope his family is doing okay. I lost my parents in a similarly short timeframe and experiencing that was very difficult. Hugs to all of you, but especially Betsy. She made me, a very shy girl feel welcome on the SHHS Swim Team.

I'm sorry to see that Mr. Daly has passed away! I didn't even hear about him passing until today at church. My brother and I have several fond memories of him. We were lucky to see him Thursday after Christmas.

Chris,

Bill and I would like to express our deepest condolences for the loss of your dad. We were unable to make the wake Thursday evening due to late work schedules- but want you to know we thought he was a wonderful man.
We are glad we had the opportunity to meet him through Lions.

Best to you and your family at this very sad time,
