Dr. And Mrs. Davies were wonderful people. My wife and I went back to Houston to visit them, apparently shortly before he was diagnosed. A great loss.

Dave had an infectious enthusiasm and optimism that inspired us lesser problem-solvers. We’ll remember the way he always downplayed the seeming hopelessness of some challenging situation, as if it were a trifling annoyance...and with that ever-present grin. As if he were mocking whatever stood in the way. I can still hear him acting out an anticipated opposing argument with that: "Oh, come now, Dr. Davies,...." We join you, Ruth and family, in honoring memories of him.

Thank you, Dai, for sharing your insight and love of sedimentary geology, which led to a lifelong passion and career for me. Thank you for an unforgettable summer in Guatemala, where we tested the patience of Sam and the Instituto staff. As his first and lifelong friend in America, fellow student, colleague, and lifelong confidant, I can speak with authority and absolute sincerity.
From our days together in LSU it became...

He was like a shooting star from Barry to Houston. From grammer school to the end. Lighting up those round him. Never forgetting a friend. Always bigger than life but never a bully. Generous with understanding and compassion, frugal in burdening others with his woes.
Dai the world is smaller without you. We will keep your memory alive as a gesture of love and respect in order to preserve a part of the glow.
Rest my friend. You are free from suffering.
