I knew David thru the old Tolkien Discussion Group in the 1990s. As "Eomer", David was one of the three or four main posters leading fantastic and insightful discussions on all aspects of Tolkien's work. 9/11 was a shock, of course, way out in Kansas, but seemed somewhat removed from us. That all changed when we learned that Eomer had passed in the awful events.
