I just came upon one of David's clever Christmas cards and it just brought warm thoughts of a guy who could do nothing but give. Loved his creativity and warm heart. Miss you David.

DAVID IS 'IN HEAVEN' NOW, WORKING ON ITS PROPORTIONS AND COLORS. WITH HIS HIGH STANDARDS, HE'LL NEVER BE SATISFIED! HE ALSO HAS ESTABLISHED TRINITY'S FIRST OFF-SITE LOCATION.

I met David when I moved to Oregon in 1981 and was discovered as another William and Mary alum by David and his friend Alan Canfield. David brought his custom-made gold and green flag to my office and tried to convince me to start an alumni group since I was "young." I tried to do this, but at the time there were only about 5 of us in the state. David dragged that flag down to Eugene, along with any other alum he knew, to watch the W&M women's soccer team play U of O. We were the only...

David's fellow members of the Portland Flag Association remember his enthusiasm for design, love of visual puzzles, and strong opinions on a range of topics. We recall fondly his occasionally hosting our meetings in his studio on N.W. Upshur, filled with a lifetime of art and architecture. He contributed mightily and consistently to our group. Our flags are at half-staff for him.
