ABINGDON, VA

David Christopher Fields, age 55, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, in Marion, VA.

Christopher was born on March 15, 1970, in Bristol, TN to the late David Carl Fields and Pauletta Wood Fields. He was also preceded in death by his nephew, Travis Jolley. From a young age, Christopher’s drive and determination were evident. He proudly became an Eagle Scout, earning numerous badges and even taking home a win in the Klondike Derby. He went on to graduate from Virginia Tech, where he spent four memorable years playing the tuba in the Marching Virginias. Following his undergraduate studies, he pursued his law degree at William & Mary Law School. Through hard work and perseverance, Christopher began practicing law in Lebanon, and then in Abingdon, VA where he became partner at McElroy Hodges & Fields. His commitment to public service later led him to serve as a Magistrate for Washington County. Outside of his profession, Christopher was a passionate fan of NASCAR and NHL hockey, always cheering on his favorite teams with enthusiasm.

Survivors include his daughter Madeline Marie Fields; brother Heath Fields & wife Janie; sister Paige Humble; step mothers Vickie Fields Kowzan and Sandra Fields; nieces & nephews Ashton Jolley, Trevor Jolley, Marley Linkous, Hayden Linkous, & Aubrey Linkous; former wife and mother of his daughter Christine Fields; close friends Drew Schneider and Tammy Gillespie; along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins to include special cousins Jonathan Taylor & Aaron Taylor.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00PM, Saturday, June 7, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church in Abingdon with Pastor Elise Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00PM, at the church on Saturday. Interment will be private. Not sure what to say?

So sorry to hear of Chris’s passing - sending strength and prayers to the family.

May you rest in peace Chris. Thanks for the time we shared at the Magistrates Office; sharing laughs and being there when we just needed someone to listen.
