Not sure what to say?

Along with Mark Pulver, I was fortunate to study Uechi Ryu karate under David's tutorledge but for only two years. He was so very kind, open and inviting to everyone he met. Over they many years I kept in touch but after I moved from NY the distance was too great. The last time I saw Dave was just after the publication of Greater Nowheres when we all went out for Chinese food. A mensch among mensches.

I spent ten years of my life studying with David. It seemed he was always tougher on me than anyone else. When anyone visited the dojo I was always the guy he sent in to spar. Raw meat. Yet as tough as he was he was always the perfectionist. Determined that his students perform every kata just as it had been transmitted to him. Three hours a night, four days a week. Damn it!

I am deeply sorry to read now that also David has passed away in 2015. Together with Evelyn he had invited me in my students days to come from Austria to NYC, not only to stay in their appartment but David also rendered it possible that I was able to practice in a law firm. From these days I owed him a lot of gratefulness and as I expressed for Evelyn, I really dreadfully mourn him. I will always think of him as a very open minded, extremely intelligent man with a gread sense of humour. Love...

So so sorry for your loss. My wife and I just learned about this tragedy when we returned home yesterday after 9 months traveling....
Evelyn and David were ours neighbors at The Churchill and by far our favorites! Always a smile, a nice word or even an open door for everybody. They will be truly missed and we will remember both of them forever! RIP

So sorry for your loss, may your memories, prayers to the God of hope, and the loving support of family and friends comfort and help you through this sad time.

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a dear loved one is never easy. May you find comfort with the words found at Jeremiah 29:11.
