Not sure what to say?

This is a picture of me and Uncle David. He was such a beautiful person.

On behalf of the International Association of LGBTQ+ Judges, we are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our dear friend, David. David was a founding member of our Association and a true joy to learn from. I had the pleasure of chatting with David after I become President a few years ago. He shared with me both his passion for justice and his pride of being the first openly gay male judge in Oregon. Although he had been away from the bench for many years, he still took the time to pass...

Dear family of David Gernant: I write to extend my condolences for your loss. I am the judge who replaced Judge Gernant in Department 31 of Multnomah County Circuit Court. He retired at a particular time in the election cycle that meant his successor would need to run for office, which is unusual in Oregon as the governor usually appoints the successor. He was very supportive of my campaign and I was blessed to receive his endorsement in the race. As an attorney, I appeared in front of...

I am taking a chocolate break to write this, because David wouldn't have it any other way! David was one of the original members of the Bill & Ann Shepherd Legal Scholarship Committee of OGALLA, the Oregon Gay And Lesbian Law Association, and his work in that capacity helped set the groundwork for years of successful Class Act benefits for the fund. He was a close friend of mom and dad--and luckily, me, too!--for decades. Two days after daddy ascended, there was David on mother's front...

We are among the fortunates who got to know David well and grew close because of our mutual interest in National Parks and travel abroad. He was a regular visitor to our home and always viewed our "Sound & Slide Shows" with great interest. His Facebook diaries included stunning photographs coupled with texts that were always informative and beautifully written. Without a doubt, our principal common interest was the Spanish speaking world and the language spoken there. We miss him and were...

I´m recalling a chat with David re getting older. I enjoined him to not have concerns, he was too curious and immersed in life. I told him he would be ageless.

Without a doubt, David was the smartest person I´ve ever met. I will miss seeing him, talking with him, and learning about his adventures. He was one of-a-kind.

Knew Dave from Kalamazoo Central High School. A fellow Eastsider.
