David D. Griffith, Jr., 79, of Spanishburg died Monday, December 7, 2015 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. Born August 5, 1936 in Ghent, WV he was the son of the late David D. Griffith, Sr. and Ruby Lilly Griffith. David was a graduate of Spanishburg High School and a member of the Spanishburg United Methodist Church. He was a retired rebuild estimate specialist with EIMCO in Bluefield. David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He enjoyed working in his workshop and could make anything out of wood. He was well known for making and collecting Kentucky Long Rifles and was known as “Mr. Fix-It” to many neighbors and friends. He had a true ear for music and could play numerous musical instruments. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one nephew, David Clay Griffith. Survivors include his wife of fifty nine years, Joan Honaker Griffith of Spanishburg; two daughters, Jennifer Watkins of Cross Lanes, WV and Susan Hale and husband Brian of Tazewell, VA; two sons, Jim Griffith and wife Debby of Winfield, WV and Danny Griffith and fiancé Diane Terry of Princeton; eleven grandchildren, Jason Watkins and wife Stacy, Chris Watkins, Derrick Griffith and companion Brianne, Dylan Griffith and wife Emily, Danielle McManaway and husband Ryan, Brent Griffith and wife Meagan, Kelsey Griffith, Colton Griffith, Megan Griffith, Dedra Owens and husband Chris, and Garrett Hale; nine great grandchildren; and two brothers, Ronald Griffith and wife Terry and Donald Griffith and wife Sharon, and their loving sons all of Richmond, VA. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. Ralph Calfee officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the service hour on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society/Hope Lodge NYC, 132 West 32nd St., ATTN: Karen Radwin, New York, NY 10001.

I can vaguely remember david as a boy. my father milburn jewell was very well acquainted with folks in spanishburg and also my cousin allen ray Addison was one of his best friends. God bless all of the family
