Not sure what to say?

Jona I just came across David´s obituary & am so sorry to learn of his passing. Hope you are well.

David was such a fine editor, a rare intellectual in the newsroom! He helped me greatly as a writer, and I won't forget it.

I believe this man is the author of After the War - Civil War Figures.
I have just finished the book and want to express how well he fleshed out the people he wrote about. My condolences to his family. His gift and hard work in writing this book live on.
I love the topic. My great grandfather and his two brothers were in the 13tn Tennessee Infantry and fought with Forrest. Wish I could share their stories with David. He has now joined them all.

I'll never forget David backing me against other editors over an investigative story that other editors were too afraid to run. He was a great editor and one of the most principled. His passing is a great loss to the profession.

David was my editor in Jackson, Mississippi, in the 1980s, and I remember him as a sharp, tough editor with a compassionate heart, maybe the true intellectual of our newsroom. I remember him and me working together on an investigative project involving county government corruption and how impressed I was by his acumen and sense of what was needed. My heartfelt condolences to the family.

Dave was a major positive force in my life and career. Thank you, Dave.

My condolences to the Hardin family. Dave provided the Tampa Tribune staff with sound leadership and wise news judgment, along with a team spirit that made him a joy to work with. May he rest in peace.
