Betty, it is with great sorrow that Gayle and I learned today of David death last June. David and I have shared emails over the years, but there have been no responses for some months. With some trepidation I searched the Birmingham obits and found, with sadness, David's wonderful obituary. As you know, we were fellow Cornell mechanical engineers, 'brothers in Alpha Delta Phi, and bridge partners. It was a treat for us to visit you in your marvelous home a few years ago. Our best to you...

It is never to late to say what someone has meant to one life. Being Thanksgiving and reflecting, I have to say David was a giant of a person in so many ways. He was my mentor & friend. He always had time for me and gave of his counsel and friendship that is immeasurable, This world is now one less great man. Thank you David

David Higgins was the most gentlemanly gentleman we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. We have never seen him act in any other way. Over the years, David gave much of himself to his fellow residents at High Hampton--as bridge director, keeper of golf handicaps, as an officer of several organizations, and in many other ways. We will very much miss David and will never forget his many kindnesses.

John, Robert and Mrs. Higgins. You will never know how much Mr. Higgins meant to our family. He always had encouraging words and support for Don during a time when he was having a lot of personal struggles. Don loved him like a Father and will truly miss him. May god bless each and every one of you and find peace knowing that he is in a much better place.

I never met him, but know he was a wonderful man, when his son spoke so well of him. God bless you all in this time and in the future as you remember and miss him. Chaplain (LTC) Coggins

David was a wonderful mentor to me in so many ways. His hospitable and gregarious nature meant that he never met a stranger, and soon after meeting him, I found a true friend. He convinced me 15 years ago that Cashiers was the place for a summer retreat from Birmingham's heat. We enjoyed many rounds of golf together on dogfight teams—some well played, others not so much. He was a wise and witty gentleman in every way. I will miss him.
